BMW is driver's car the 8 speed ZF gearbox is much advance and smoother than MB 7G....engine also newer and design is geared towards handling.
You want comfort then MB is the rite car for you and MB products seem more lasting than BMW's in terms of built and quanlity......now MB cars also look more youthful than last time.
You can forget about the overall performance aspect if you are talking about engine capacity 1600cc turbo road cars and Mini JCW is included.

Not sure about the 316...
Had a 320 few years back. Really a driver's car. Steering hard n responsive. Takes corners swee swee one. But power n respond was a big issue.
My bro in law bought the facelift 318 2yrs ago.

New 3 series should be better. Tried the 328 and was pretty impressed.

Best bang for buck if you don't have capacity is either a turbo or super charger...so in this case...Merc did it right so yes the C180 being charged, makes way more sense.

Test driven the 316 on Friday with a bro here and seen the car in flesh. The 316 is damn good looking with tons of options! Red leather bucket seats, sports kit, bi-xenon, keyless. Fabulous drive. Pin point steering wheel and very little body roll.

But then, the power, or lack of it is a big no no for me. Though pretty decent and sufficient on Singapore roads, compared to the C180 7G, it's pretty disappointing. Difference between the 320 luxury line is only $12k. I would go for the 320. Completely different animal. But then, the sports line makes me drool.......$$$ no enough......
